The interview and references
The interview lasts approximately 50-90 minutes, and will be conducted in English on a one-to-one basis. You are required to bring the following items to interview:
- A printed copy of your Application for Interview - please do not forget this, it will be required for review at interview.
- You will be required to pay (no cash please) or show proof of payment online (printed receipt) at the interview. Cheques should be made out (personal or bank cheque) to Camp America.
Reference criteria - important
Two references which must:
- be written by a referee who has known you in a professional capacity for at least 6 months and state so on the reference.
- Use the open character reference form if you want to make life easier - just hand it to your employer or referee and have them complete, sign and stamp it.
- provide positive feedback on your character or performance.
- be on official stationery or have a signed business card attached.
- be signed and dated and be no older than 12 months at the time of your interview.
- be original
- If you are a former participant going to a new camp, one of your references must come from your previous camp.
In addition you must bring:
- A passport/profile photograph - you can load this directly onto your Camp America Direct website by following the instructions located in the 'Pictures & Media' section. Alternatively, you can give a picture to your interviewer which will be scanned and added to your electronic form.
- Certificates and photos to support your application (activity photos can either be uploaded directly via 'Pictures & Media' on your Camp America Direct site, or given to your interviewer
- Photographic proof of identification
- A copy of the photo page of your passport (please note, you can still attend an interview if you do not yet have a passport, but please apply for one as soon as possible).
Finally you will be required to provide proof of payment and a completed police check form at interview. The interview and the paperwork (online and actual paper references) can be the most challenging part of the whole application process. We must prove to the US Government that you are the right kind of person that we should be sponsoring to work in USA at camp.
Camp is the best thing I have ever done. Knowing that you are greatly appreciated by the kids and staff and making lifelong friends who I keep in-touch with.
