Okay so you have finished your Camp America application, had your interview, your application is now circulating summer camps in America, what do you do now?.

I know at this time I was desperate for time to go by fast, so I have out together a bunch of things to help time go faster.

Top 15 things to do while you fill in time waiting for your Camp America Placement.

  1. The first thing I would say is learn a new skill, This will give you a little something extra to show off at camp. I learnt the cup song which was a complete hit with the girls at my camp.
  2. Learn the American pledge I guarantee you will have to say it at one point, at my camp we said it every morning before breakfast.
  3. Watch the parent trap and then follow that by many other camp related movies make it a marathon.
  4. Practice your American accent, once I found out I was placed in the south I practice my southern accent for a long time in the mirror. Chances are the kids won't understand "bedtime, pen or jandals"
  5. Find a hobby you enjoy that gets you outside kayaking, biking, climbing, hiking or even just walking the dog. You are going to spend a lot of time outside at camp get used to it now.
  6. Learn how to tie die, you will be doing tonnes of it at camp plus it looks great in your camp wardrobe.
  7. Learn a bunch of new camp songs to sing at camp fires or to get your kids attention.
  8. Follow the Camp America NZ Facebook page, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr and Pinterest the more you are active here the better chance you have for early placement. Participate - don't be shy. We love hearing from you.
  9. Learn a new party trick like balancing ten books on your head, yodelling or how to talk to the animals - never know when you might encounter a conversation with a black bear!
  10. Find out everything you need to know about One Direction and Justin Beiber especially if you want to be a teen girl councillor
  11. Learn Maori - the kids love it when you talk to them in your country’s native tongue – easiest cheat way for this is to learn long street names they will never know the difference.
  12. Learn how to take a 3min cold shower – enough said you will have to learn to enjoy this!
  13. Make a recording of snoring, farting, sleep talking, animal noises and children asking you to get up and turn the bath room light on. Play this while you are sleeping it will help you to get used to having a disruptive sleep.
  14. Paint your nails… yes even guys will do this at some point in camp
  15. Learn how to keep a straight face, no doubt you are going to have to use this at some point.
