How to Make a Camp America Application Video

How to Make a Camp America Application Video

Author -  Pops

As part of your application for Camp America, you need to make a short video introducing yourself. Don't worry, it is super easy to do and only the Camp Directors will see it - unless you decide to publish it to YouTube!

We have put together our top tips, so you can make an epic application video!

1. Filming

Don’t worry you don’t need to be Stephen Spielberg or Peter Jackson, to film an application video. You can film it on your smart phone and even edit it on your phone too!

Make sure you film with your phone sideways, so you don’t have the weird black parts on the sides!

Film in a quiet location when you are talking, so that they can hear what you are saying.
Try and get some shots of you doing your skills - for example if you play soccer, take a video of you kicking a ball around.

Be as creative with it as possible, make it fun and interesting - plan what you are going to say before you film.

Keep it short and snappy, you don’t need it any longer than 2 minutes. It is just a quick introduction to show Camp Directors how awesome you are.

2. Editing

If you have a laptop you can use a free software called movie maker, if you have a mac you can use iMovie. They are quite easy to use, but if you get stuck there are some YouTube videos to help you figure it out.

You can also download GoPro’s Splice app and just put the clips you want to use in, and then trim them down and even add a song - all on your phone!

Keep the music appropriate and try not to make it too loud.

If editing is really not your strong point, don't even worry! Just upload a whole video clip filmed on your phone.

3. Content

Be enthusiastic, upbeat and friendly! It is quite awkward and sometimes cheesy, but be enthusiastic as you will come across so much better on camera to camp directors!

Don’t talk for too long, but try and include your skills and anything you think would make you a great counsellor - experience with kids, certain skills, your personality!
