Working on a special needs camp! - Connors Camp America Experience!

Author -  Pops

When i first saw that there where special needs summer camps as well as "normal" summer camps i thought i would never ever in my life spend 9 weeks working at one of them!!! or so i thought......

After heading to the Camp America directors fair in Auckland and speaking with Alex the director of the special needs camp, Camp Huntington i thought " working on a special needs camp cant be too bad, can it?" so i set myself the challenge of completing 9 weeks at a special needs camp!

Within a month of being at camp and working with a wide range of special needs people i had realised i had made the best decsion of my life, and one ill cherish for the rest o fmy life. Those precious kids teach you so much about yourself, make you realise your capable of alot more then you think you are, the fun and happiness they bring into you life is next to none! There was not one day at camp i wasn't brought to tears with laughter from these guys, Disabilty or no disability these guys are just as human as you and I!

Working on a special needs camp is no different from all your other camps, we still had sports, rope courses, cooking classes, dances, lip sync battles, swimming, arts, music and the good old American Camp fire with your delicous smores!!!

Don't be put off by the fact that its a Special needs camp and you've got no expericnce, because i was in that boat, i took the leap and now i cant wait to go back for my second summer!! its challenging but definatly rewarding and i would 100% recomend!!!
